Validation of GMPE analyses using Argo |

This page was created as part of the E-AIMS (external link) project (Euro-Argo Improvements for the GMES Marine Service) and is updated once a month. |

Overview
Near-surface temperature observations from Argo profiling floats have been used to validate various global SST analyses and their daily ensemble median, known as the GMPE (GHRSST Multi-Product Ensemble) median product.
Argo observations between 3-5 m depth have been used, and the analyses have been regridded to the Argo locations to create the matchups.
Plots for OSTIA and the GMPE median are shown for various ocean regions for a rolling 18-month window.
These pages are updated on the first of the month for the previous-but-one month using Argo data from the Met Office Hadley Centre EN4 database.
The GMPE ensemble median product is freely available through CMEMS (external link).
Global comparisons to Argo for GMPE analyses
Note: Days when analyses are missing from GMPE are included in the stats, leading to spikes for some analyses when only a small number of files are available for the month.
The spikes in statistics for NAVO K10 and DMI analyses in July is due to a few days where they incorrectly produced extremely cold SSTs.
